Ungated Reference1. Technical Query Assessment Framework
How to structure your response during live SQL coding tests under observation.
-- Always communicate these 4 steps aloud:
-- 1. State the target output columns and grain.
-- 2. Identify the tables needed and join keys.
-- 3. Clarify filter conditions and NULL edge cases.
-- 4. Write query modularly using CTEs for review clarity.2. Root Cause Analysis (Metric Drop Scenario)
When asked "Why did revenue drop 10% last month?", use this systematic decomposition:
1. Verify Data Pipeline: Rule out tracking bugs or ingestion latency.
2. Segment by Geography: Did the dip occur nationally or in specific regions?
3. Segment by Platform: Web vs Android vs iOS conversion funnels.
4. Segment by Product: Did a single top-selling SKU experience supply stockout?
5. External Factors: Seasonality, holiday timing, or competitor promotions.Students, educators, bloggers, and tech writers may cite or reference this quick-reference guide in coursework, portfolio articles, or technical guides with proper attribution:
